High School Art Stars – Brianna, Nicholas & Rebekah

Each year the Tampa Bay Businesses for Culture and the Arts awards $15,000 in scholarships to Bay Area high school juniors and seniors to help fund their higher education in the arts. Scholarships were awarded based on academic achievement and talent in the areas of theater, dance, literature, visual arts, instrumental and vocal music.

Listen to Brianna Sparklin sing, Nicholas Smart play the piano and admire some of Rebekah Kirkman’s artwork. In this video you will see three of the recipients of this year’s scholarship program.

What are art schools looking for from high school students to have completed in a portfolio.?

I am a high school sophomore looking for help and suggestions as to how i should continue my art education. Good at oil and acrylic painting as well as pencil and graphite.

Went to the art institute, they have schools all over. Plenty of talented people there (though some are a just a joke)… they interview you but you dont need a portfolio but it is a plus if you do have one.

What kind of art work are they looking for from a highschool students when entering Parsons Art School?

I’m in high school and I was wondering what kind of art work is Parsons Art school looking for. As well, what should the portfolio look like? How well does the art have to be? My school work is fine, having a GPA of a 4.2. But what kind of art work are they looking for, considering high school art classes have limited resources.

you have to check their website, also what program are you applying for, fine art, interior design, architecture etc?
If you can’t find the info on their website phone them.
They do offer portfolio review days if you live close enough sign up for one.

Rest assured, the majority of people applying will come straight from highschool so you all have a level playing field. Commonly they look for a variety of techniques and subjects, usually a self portrait should be included.

Where would I find the best Art School?

I’m planning to study photography. I’m going to start out at a J.C and then i’d like to transfer to an art school. Does anyone know of a good school? It could be anywhere really.

Also is it true that for most art schools, the requirements for getting in would be an interview and a portfolio? Nothing academic?
I’m from California!
Holden your answer was very rude! I highly disagree with you!

Best art school period is Juliard. Another good one however is the Pasadena Arts College here in So Cal.
