State University of New York SUNY Maritime College – A living history |
Gary Jobson, the acclaimed Americas Cup sailor, ESPN commentator, president of U.S. Sailing and SUNY Maritime graduate (class of 1973), captures the essence of the Maritime College experience and showcases the Colleges rich history.
From a Cadets experience onboard the Empire State VI as the ship makes its way through New York harbor from a two month European voyage, to a historic look back at the College in its early days as a merchant marine academy, the viewer has a first hand view of life on the campus and a look at what a Maritime education yields.
Captivating interviews with Maritime faculty, administrators and students gives the viewer a first hand look at life at Maritime. This is the chance to experience college life at the scenic New York City campus on the banks of the East River and Long Island Sound. With starting careers among the highest in the nation, Maritime graduates, the viewer learns, have tremendous opportunity ahead.
Jobson also recounts his own sailing days as an All American at Maritime and looks at the Colleges nationally ranked sailing team as well as the Colleges NCAA sports teams.
Gary Jobsons lively telling of the Maritime story is complimented by exquisite world-class photography, shot by Emmy Award winning cameramen whose work is regularly seen on NBC Sports and ESPN as well as other national media outlets.

Anoka-Ramsey Community College, with campuses in Cambridge and Coon Rapids, has been a leading provider of higher education and training in East Central Minnesota since 1978 and the north suburban area of Minneapolis/St. Paul since 1965. Annually, the college serves more than 10,000 learners of all ages as they pursue associate degrees that transfer as the first two years of a bachelor’s degree, or certificate programs that lead immediately to rewarding careers. Design/Education Lecture 1/14 |
This is part 1 of 14 of a lecture on the relationship between Education and Design in and beyond the Hong Kong context. I delivered it in July 2008 to about 150 Hong Kong Secondary School arts teachers in support of their bid to accommodate designing in the local secondary schools’ arts curriculum. The lecture was the kick-off for a two-day workshop organised by the Hong Kong Government’s Education Bureau. The organiser has asked me to pay particular attention to the notions of art and design appreciation and to critical thinking. I recommend using headphones while watching as the audio is not great. Total playback time is just over 2 hours.

Huckabee says the “dumbest” thing schools have done over the years is to cut art and music programs. He describes them as essential to preparing creative and competitive students.
